You’re eligible for Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) if you or your spouse have worked for at least 10 years in Medicare-covered employment.
If you have a disability or End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), you may qualify for Medicare before turning 65.
You don’t have to pay a premium for Part A if:
If you don’t qualify for premium-free Part A, you may still buy it, but you’ll have to pay a monthly premium.
Part B (which covers medical insurance) always requires a premium, even if you qualify for Part A without premiums.
Part B premiums are deducted from your Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Civil Service Retirement checks. If you don’t get these benefits, you will get a quarterly bill for your Part B premium
